The Night

Out of the Gloom started in May 2006 as a Sunday session, following promoter, Sally Squiggles’, numerous conversations with DJs about records she had found in their collection, which would never fit into their average sets.

It travelled from it's original Sunday venue, Kro Bar, to Cord in Manchester's Northern Quarter and then onto Manchester institution, Dry Bar in November 2007, for almost 3 years Out of the Gloom was a habitual Sunday outing, bringing brightness to the deadliest hang-overs and most torturous come-downs.

Joined weekly by an amalgam of local talent. DJs embracing a 'no music policy / music policy,' enjoying playing records a little more laid-back than they could spin anywhere else. Techno DJs playing funk, hip hop DJs playing pop, house DJs playing reggae and anything in between. Guests included resident DJs from some of Manchester's finest club nights including; The Warehouse Project, Sankeys, Development, Naive Melody, Micron and Northern Disco.

The regular Sundays ended in November 2008.

Out of the Gloom is currently the 2nd Friday of the month at Voodoo Lounge, Manchester. While still standing by the ethos originally behind the night, guest DJs include Ashley Beedle and Kelvin Brown. Every month a crowd of smiling, music-lovers gather to enjoy a night of dancing to a wonderful selection of records from across the musical spectrum.

The residents have made guest appearances at club nights across the UK, proving they can play banging beats as well as eclectic, chilled sets. The residents have appeared at; Sankeys Soap, D:Percussion, The Manchester International Festival, One Deck Armchair Sessions at Electric Bar, Kill the Disco, Waves For Shelter and Nish Nash Nosh amongst many others. They have also made a number of radio appearances.   In March 2007, alongside Good Housekeepin’ a one-off showcase took place at the iconic Urbis, Manchester. The night was a massive success and was a great platform for the more up-tempo side of Out of the Gloom.

Out of the Gloom have also hosted room 2 at Dave Haslam’s Sweet Sensation in a number of venues, a great honour and a really exciting venture!

In 2008, resident Steph Holland made an appearance under the Out of the Gloom banner at the Lake of Stars Festival in Malawi and in July 2009, Out of the Gloom hosted an event in the pavilion of the Manchester International Festival.

Out of the Gloom continues to grow and has received praise and support from some fantastic DJs, promoters and music lovers.

Out of the Gloom – A brighter way to party!
