What are you rocking out to at the moment that we can expect to hear on the night?
I haven’t got my set together yet - I’m terrible like that, real last-minute organiser. Ask me again on the 7th!
We know you for some fantastic edits but also know about your audio restoration projects, have you been working on anything recently?
Quite a few – things like the Originals series for Claremont 56; a UK jazz-funk compilation that’s in the pipeline; a Bollywood compilation and several reggae single reissues on which I’m not credited.
You’ve been on the London music scene since the 80’s, how does it compare now to when you started out?
A lot more people are into what I’m into. I meet a lot of young enthusiasts and collectors who are crazy about disco and boogie and know so much. The emphasis on old music is greater now than ever and the pool of knowledge is greater and more accessible, so there are hundreds of musical encyclopaedias walking around and sparking off each other!
You are much respected amongst your peers, who would you pick out as someone who has been inspirational during your career?
That’s one I’ll have to pass on, because I can’t think of any one person who I could give that accolade to. I have a long list and it’s all the usual suspects – Francois Kevorkian, Tee Scott, Arthur Russell, Shep Pettibone, Peter Brown, etc. – those were the names behind the music I felt defined me.
